- No physician-President relationship has been closer than Grayson and Wilson. They met by chance, when Wilson's sister fell and cut her head on the day of Wilson's first inauguration (Smith p.5). Grayson, assigned to the White House as a subordinate physician, stitched her up so efficiently that Mrs. Wilson [the first] later selected him as the President's personal physician (Smith, p.7).
Grayson attended Mrs. Wilson in her final illness and was Wilson's go-between to the fiancee that followed (Smith, pp. 21-22).
- Grayson recommended Dr. Ross McIntire to be Franklin Roosevelt's presidential physician [MacMahon and Curry, p. 61].
